Prebiotic sodas went from health-store curiosity to checkout-aisle staple, and two brands own the category: Olipop and Poppi. They look similar, cost similar-ish, and both promise your gut a better life. We drank both — every flavor we could find — for a week straight.

Taste

Olipop wins, and it isn’t that close. Olipop has body — the Vintage Cola genuinely passes for craft soda, with a creamy mouthfeel from its fiber blend. Poppi is lighter and more like a flavored sparkling water with a juice splash. Refreshing, but if you’re quitting regular soda, Olipop will keep you off it; Poppi might not.

Sugar & ingredients

Olipop runs 2–5g sugar per can with 9g of prebiotic fiber from chicory root, cassava, and Jerusalem artichoke. Poppi is typically 4–5g sugar with apple cider vinegar and about 2g of fiber. If fiber is the point, Olipop delivers roughly four times more of it.

The gut-health reality check

Neither can is a medical intervention. The research on prebiotic fiber is promising, and 9g per can is a meaningful contribution to the ~25g daily target most people miss. Poppi’s ACV dose is small enough that you shouldn’t expect much from it. Treat both as “soda that’s better for you than soda,” not as a supplement.

Price

Poppi is consistently $4–6 cheaper per 12-pack and goes on sale more often. If budget decides it, Poppi takes the round.

Verdict

Buy Olipop if you want the most soda-like experience and the fiber payload — it’s the better product. Buy Poppi if you prefer lighter, fruitier drinks or you’re buying for a crowd on a budget.
